Matt Gaetz tried to loop Tucker Carlson into the underage sex allegations against him

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) is trying to tell us that he’s not going down alone. Last night, the much-maligned congressman lowkey tried to implicate Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson (and his wife) into his sex abuse allegations during an unusual interview on live television.

According to a New York Times report, Gaetz, an ally of former President Donald Trump, is at the part of a Justice Department investigation into a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old. He potentially faces charges related to federal sex trafficking laws.

The Times also reports that “the investigation was opened in the final months of the Trump administration under Attorney General William Barr” with senior Justice Department officials aware of the inquiry. Gaetz has not been charged “and the extent of his criminal exposure is unclear,” according to the Times.

This is WILD.@MattGaetz to #Tucker: "It is a horrible allegation and it is a lie. The New York Times is running a story that I have traveled w/a 17-year-old woman and that is verifiably false…What is happening is an extortion of me and my family" by a former DOJ official. pic.twitter.com/lwqfVGC9wF — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) March 31, 2021

Gaetz appeared to be on the offensive on Carlson’s show, attempting to get in front of the allegations, calling it “extortion.” He also gave the name of a former Justice official, David McGee, as the person extorting him.

🚨 @MattGaetz names the ex-DOJ official he alluded to: "His name is David McGee. He was a top official in the leadership in the northern district of Florida as a prosecutor…There was a demand for money in exchange for a commitment that he could make this investigation go away" pic.twitter.com/dqKkKAZghG — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) March 31, 2021

“This is a blatant attempt to distract from the fact that Matt Gaetz is apparently about to be indicted for sex trafficking underage girls,” said McGee to the Daily Beast.

However, Gaetz tried to loop Carlson into the mix on the show, deflecting from the accusations.

love to implicate my friends in sex trafficking on live TV. real "chosen family" vibes. https://t.co/T2fQPz03On — Robert Evans (The Only Robert Evans) (@IwriteOK) March 31, 2021

“I only know what I’ve read about in the New York Times,” he claims, before putting Carlson into the dragnet. “I can say that you and I went to dinner about two years ago. Your wife was there. I brought a friend of mine. You’ll remember her.”

How Carlson can maintain the straightest of faces as he’s being live-dragged into Gaetz’s murky waters is beyond everything.

“And she was actually threatened by the FBI,” he continues. “She was told that if she wouldn’t cop to the fact that, somehow, I was involved in some pay-for-play scheme, that she could face trouble. I do believe there are people at the Department of Justice who are trying to smear me. Providing for flights and hotel rooms for people you are dating, who are of legal age, is not a crime. And I’m just troubled the lack of any sort of legitimate investigation into me would then permute, would then convert into this extortion attempt.”

“I don’t remember the woman you’re speaking of or the context at all,” replies Carlson after a beat.

Later, unprompted, Gaetz makes mentions of allegations of pictures showing him with child prostitutes. He also reminded Carlson about his own accusations of rape.

Gaetz concludes by saying he's a victim because "I'm a well-known, outspoken conservative, and I guess that's out of style in a lot of parts of the country right now." The 38-year-old laid out more details on Twitter yesterday on his allegations of a smear campaign.

…and my father has even been wearing a wire at the FBI’s direction to catch these criminals. The planted leak to the FBI tonight was intended to thwart that investigation.

No part of the allegations against me are true, and the people pushing these lies are targets… — Matt Gaetz (@mattgaetz) March 30, 2021

…of the ongoing extortion investigation.

I demand the DOJ immediately release the tapes, made at their direction, which implicate their former colleague in crimes against me based on false allegations. — Matt Gaetz (@mattgaetz) March 30, 2021

Aside from current calls for Gaetz to be relieved of his House Judiciary duties during the investigation, the Times also notes that Gaetz “has recently mused with confidants about quitting elected politics and taking a full-time job with the conservative television channel Newsmax or another network, according to a person familiar with the conversations.”

Biden says K-12 education isn't working — calls for free pre-K to "grade 14"

President Joe Biden on Wednesday praised the nation's K-12 education system for fueling America's economic growth for almost a century. But, he stressed, that system may no longer be sufficient as the foundation for future prosperity. Mr. Biden's American Families Plan is taking aim at an issue that has bedeviled economists as well as millions of families struggling to stay afloat financially: A high school diploma is no longer enough to secure a middle-class life. Under the White House proposal, the nation's K-12 system would be expanded on both ends — from free pre-kindergarten education through a "grade 14," funding two years of schooling before kindergarten and two years of post-high school education through free community college. There's plenty of economic research that links rising high school graduation rates throughout the 20th century to faster U.S. economic growth. For example, broadening education help women enter the workforce and enabled men ...

New climate envoy John Kerry sold off energy holdings to avoid conflict of interest, disclosures show

Financial disclosures released by former Secretary of State John Kerry indicate that until March of this year he held hundreds of thousands of dollars of investments in energy-related companies that may end up being affected by policies he'll help shape as President Joe Biden's new climate envoy. An ABC News analysis of his assets show that in recent years, Kerry held stakes in at least three dozen companies related to the energy industry, including firms dealing in electric, oil and gas, and nuclear energy, with shares worth between $204,000 and $960,000. Kerry had also recently held high-ranking positions within firms and entities that could end up being regulated by his climate action policies, filings show. A certificate of divestiture issued by the Office of Government Ethics on March 8 shows Kerry's plan to divest from companies that could pose a conflict of interest for his new role as U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, a common measure that newly appointed...

GOP Congressman Skips COVID-19 Relief Vote To Speak At White Nationalist Rally

Rep. Paul Gosar, a Republican from Arizona, spoke Friday night at a far-right extremist rally organized by white nationalist figurehead Nick Fuentes while his colleagues in the House passed a massive coronavirus relief package. Gosar, who has served in Congress for more than a decade, submitted a request to vote by proxy due to the threat of the pandemic. Yet instead of staying home, he traveled to Orlando, Florida, where he served as a surprise headliner at the America First Political Action Conference (AFPAC) alongside Steve King, the white nationalist former congressman from Iowa. The coronavirus aid passed the House with no Republican support and is now under consideration in the Senate. Fuentes, the main AFPAC organizer, attended both the deadly 2017 white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, and the U.S. Capitol riot of this year, although he claims he did not storm the building. His extremist event was held not far from the 2021 Conservative Political Action Conferenc...
